Q & A

I provided my child's immunization records and birth certificate during Early Childhood Screening, do I need to provide it again?
No, we would not need them again if your child was screened through Maple River Schools. If your child received their Early Childhood Screening elsewhere, we would need to have copies either submitted in the form or emailed to marss@isd2135.org.
-
Which site will my child attend kindergarten?
With several communities spanning 4 cities, it isn’t always easy to decide which student goes where. To do this we have a hierarchy of factors that we take into consideration.
- Student’s primary city of residence.
- Older siblings current enrollment location
- Geographic location
- Special needs
- Bus routes
- Class sizes
- Summer movement
If we aren’t able to place your child where you hoped they would be placed, we can place them on the waitlist. Occasionally, spots may open up over the course of the summer.
It is also important to complete the Kindergarten Registration, the link can be found on this page. This survey will let us know your site preference and give us additional and important information needed to plan for our 2021-22 Kindergarten class.

Who are the Kindergarten teachers?
Other than you, your child's kindergarten teacher is one of the most important people in your child's education. We currently have 3 wonderful kindergarten teachers; Mrs. Sindelir and Miss Drewek at Maple River East in Minnesota Lake and Mrs. Kastenschmidt at Maple River West in Good Thunder.

How will my child be transported to and from school?
We partner with Palmer Bus Services for our district's transportation needs. Dave and Karen do everything they can to make your child's trip to and from school safe! During Kindergarten Round up this summer (hopefully) Palmer Bus Service will be there to greet you and provide your child with a badge they can attach to their backpack. This badge helps our staff and Palmer's staff know which bus your child should be on. We also will have extra staff available the first week or so to help guide all of our students, especially our new kindergartners, to the correct bus. We will also have additional staff ride the buses the first week or so too!
We will ask you a few transportation questions during the Kindergarten Registration survey. Completing this survey as soon as possible not only helps us plan, it also helps Palmer Bus Service create their bus routes for the year.
-
How can I check my students grades, lunch balance, or receive news from the school?
As a parent, you are an important piece to your child’s education and we want to support you in that role as best as we can. To do this we have a few technological supports that may help you.
Maple River Schools Website
There you can find learning links, staff directory, district news, calendars, Campus Portal, Registration and Online Payments.
Facebook
Campus Portal
Campus Portal will be a great resource for you. If you register for Kindergarten an email will be sent in late summer with a link that will allow you to sign up for the Parent Portal. This access will allow you to view lunch account information, attendance, and grades.
Online Payments is another great resource. Here you can register for activities, add lunch money, and pay additional fees throughout your child's school career.
-
What documentation do I need to gather prior to completing the Kindergarten Registration?
To enroll your child in a public school we will need a copy of their Birth Certificate and their immunization record (or a notarized medical or non-medical exempt form.) There will be an option to upload these documents when you complete your online registration form.
If you turned your documents in when your child completed the Early Childhood Screening, you do not need to provide them again, if the screening was completed at Maple River.
-
What should I do if my child needs to take medication at school?
Contact our school nurse's office at dvolsen@isd2135.org and they will provide you with a form to complete.
-
I'm not sure if my child is ready for Kindergarten, what should I do?
Some children are not ready for kindergarten, and that's okay! If you are unsure if your child is ready we have a few suggestions:
- Talk with your child's preschool teacher. They will have some great insight for you regarding your child's skill level.
- Check out the "Is your child ready for Kindergarten" graphic on this page. The desired skills for an incoming kindergartner are listed there.
- If you are still not sure, you can always register your child for Kindergarten and wait until this summer to make your final decision.
